International Day of the Girl
8 October, 2020
“When women and girls rise, their communities and countries rise with them.”
Michelle Obama
Bounce is delighted to be hosting a digital day of celebration to mark International Day of the Girl.
During lockdown, a group of girls came together over Zoom to make a podcast. On a quest to think about alternative, better, and more balanced representation of the female experience – they made The Female Voice.
Each episode looked at an element of the female experience. The conversations were diverse ranging from smashing stereotypes, to better representation in the media, positive relationships, and being ok with your hormones.
To mark their work, the girls have worked with women to turn The Female Voice into a magazine that champions a broader, more diverse view of girls and their role in the world. This will be launched on International Day of the Girl.
Alongside this, a group of girls worked with award winning author Tamsin Winter. Together they have imagined stories of alternative heroines, fit for 2020. A collection of the starts of stories championing girls who stop trying to be perfect and embrace anxiety, disability and care for others will be live streamed on our Facebook page at 2pm on Sunday 11th October.
Throughout the day we will be sharing highlights of the podcast, interviews with girls, and their stories across our social media channels.
This has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the #iwill social action fund and London Capital Community Foundation.
We hope you will tune in on Sunday!
